SEOUL, June 29 (Yonhap) — HD Hyundai Electric Co., a South Korean electric equipment manufacturer, said Sunday it has signed an initial agreement with a Norwegian company to supply power equipment for data centers.
The company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Bulk Infrastructure, a Norwegian data and telecommunications infrastructure firm, to provide electric power transformers and high-voltage circuit breakers for the company’s data centers, it said in a press release.
Under the agreement, the two companies will also cooperate in seeking orders for high-voltage circuit breakers in the European electric machinery market, the company said.
Founded in 2006, Bulk Infrastructure currently operates five data centers in Norway and Denmark.
Last year, HD Hyundai Electric signed a separate deal to supply ultra-high-voltage transformers to Bulk Infrastructure’s data center in Vennesla, Norway.
Europe ranked as one of the world’s top three regions for data center electricity consumption in 2024, alongside the United States and China, according to a report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA).
European data centers consumed about 70 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity in 2024. The IEA expected that global data center electricity consumption could grow by around 15 percent annually from 2024 to 2030.
