
GUANGZHOU — Nighttime consumption is drawing attention as a way to revitalize the economy in the Sichuan province capital of Chengdu, with the southwest central Chinese city’s government encouraging more recreational activities after the sun goes down.
Chengdu has a relatively laid-back atmosphere compared with such major cities as Beijing and Shanghai, and has become popular with young people in recent years. The local government is trying to stimulate demand for such activities as shopping and after-work leisure.
